uSMART's headline pitch is lifetime zero commission on US stocks and one of the lowest published commission rates on SGX stocks in Singapore, but the part most comparison articles skip is that your SGX shares sit in a custodian account uSMART manages, not in your own CDP account, and that is worth understanding before you make it your main broker.

If you are weighing uSMART against the half dozen other apps chasing new sign-ups, here is what I think actually matters: what you keep after every fee stacks up, where your shares actually sit, and how uSMART compares to moomoo, since that is the app most people are weighing it against.

I go through the real fee stack, how account setup works, what the current welcome offer gives you, and where uSMART comes up short.

What Is uSMART Securities Singapore?

uSMART Securities (Singapore) Pte Ltd is the local arm of uSMART Group, a fintech that has been opening new branches around Singapore over the past year while pitching itself as a low-cost, all-in-one platform for stocks, options, CFDs and forex.

It is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore under a Capital Markets Services Licence (CMS101161) and also holds Exempt Financial Adviser status, the same broad licence category as Moomoo and Tiger Brokers.

Markets

US, Singapore and Hong Kong stocks, plus options, CFDs and forex

Minimum funding

S$0 to open; some welcome promotions ask for a S$1,000 to S$2,000 deposit

SG shares custody

Account tiers

Standout feature

Interest paid on uncommitted cash sitting in the account

The row worth sitting with is custody. uSMART's low headline fees come with a trade-off that moomoo no longer asks you to make, since moomoo added direct CDP account linking earlier this year. I get into what that actually means further down.

Is uSMART Worth It for a New Singapore Investor?

uSMART does not have moomoo's scale or Tiger Brokers' name recognition in Singapore, and it is not really trying to compete on that.

Its pitch is narrower: some of the lowest published commission and platform fees in the market, a genuinely useful interest rate on cash sitting in the account, and a simpler three-tier structure that lets you pay less if you skip the research add-ons.

Where it earns a serious look is for someone doing a decent volume of US stock trades. Lifetime zero commission with a flat US$0.88 platform fee per order undercuts moomoo's US$0.99 platform fee, and since both are already commission-free on the US side, that platform fee is really the only thing left to compare.

Personally, I would frame it this way: if Moomoo is the broker you open for the charting tools (I went through those in my moomoo review), uSMART is closer to the broker you open because the fee card is genuinely one of the cheapest on the page.

If research and screening tools matter more to you than shaving a few cents off commission, my Simplywall.st review covers a different kind of tool entirely.

uSMART's case is narrower than moomoo's, and that is fine, but it means the parts of the platform beyond price carry less of the pitch.

How Do I Open and Fund a uSMART Account?

Account opening follows the same basic flow as most Singapore-facing brokers:

  1. Sign up on the app or website with your Singpass or NRIC details.

  2. Complete online KYC checks, which uSMART says typically clear within 1 to 3 business days.

  3. Choose an account tier: Trader for the lowest fees, Standard or Intel if you want more research tools and live data.

  4. Fund the account by bank transfer, PayNow, FAST or telegraphic transfer. There is no minimum to open the account itself.

  5. Check the live promotions page before you fund, since welcome offers are usually tied to a minimum deposit held for a set period.

Once the account is open, everything runs through uSMART's own app or desktop platform, plus an OpenAPI option if you want to build your own trading tools on top of it.

There is no separate Lite-versus-Pro split the way Moomoo does it. It is one interface with the depth turned up or down depending on your tier.

For now, compare whatever welcome promotion is running on uSMART's own site that week, since the current Maybank Money Market Fund interest boost and deposit-linked rewards are scheduled to run only through the end of this year.

What Does It Actually Cost to Trade on uSMART?

Illustration of layered brokerage fees stacking on a trading app screen

This is where zero commission on US stocks needs a footnote, and it is the same footnote moomoo's fee card needs: the platform fee and GST still apply underneath it.

On the Trader tier, uSMART's published SGX commission is 0.02% of trade value with a S$1 minimum, and there is a separate platform fee on top of that. US stocks carry lifetime zero commission with a flat US$0.88 per order platform fee.

Singapore residents also pay 9% GST on the commission, platform fee, trading fee, clearing fee and settlement instruction fee, the same treatment moomoo's fee card carries.

Read that table as: for a S$1,000 SGX trade, you are looking at roughly S$1 in commission at the minimum, cheaper than moomoo's S$4.99 minimum, plus whatever the platform fee and GST add on top. For US stocks, the US$0.88 flat platform fee is a shade cheaper than moomoo's US$0.99, though the gap on any single trade is small enough that it only really compounds if you trade often.

Independent reviews quote uSMART's all-in SG stock cost anywhere from 0.02% up to roughly 0.1% depending on which account tier they are describing, so treat the Trader tier number above as the best case and check your own tier's live rate card before you trade.

What Are the Risks and Trade-offs?

Illustration comparing an individual custody account to a pooled custodian account structure

The fee card is the easy part to check. The custody structure is the part worth reading slowly.

  • Your SGX shares sit in a custodian account, not your own CDP account. Dividends, corporate actions and voting rights are routed through uSMART rather than directly to you the way a CDP-linked account works, and moving shares to another broker later takes more steps than a straight CDP transfer.

  • No confirmed CPF or SRS support. I could not find CPF Ordinary Account or SRS funding listed anywhere in uSMART's own materials, and the independent brokerage comparison guides that track this feature do not list uSMART among the platforms that offer it either.

  • Fee tiers complicate the headline rate. The Trader tier's 0.02% SG stock commission is the number that gets quoted everywhere, but Standard and Intel tiers carry different, and in some reviews higher, published rates.

  • A newer entrant than moomoo or Tiger Brokers in Singapore, so the local track record and dispute-resolution history is thinner, even though the MAS licence sits in the same category.

  • Welcome promotions rotate. The Maybank Money Market Fund interest boost running through the end of this year is scoped to a S$2,000 to S$8,000 deposit band, so read the terms before you count on the headline rate.

What I would watch: whether uSMART adds direct CDP linking the way moomoo did this year. That is the single change that would remove my main hesitation about using it as a primary SGX broker rather than a secondary one for US stocks.

uSMART vs Moomoo: How Do the Fees and Structure Compare?

Illustration comparing two brokerage trading apps side by side

Moomoo is the obvious comparison, since both apps compete hard on new-user promos and both come up in the same breath in Singapore investing chats. I already went through Moomoo's own fee card in detail, so here is how the two actually sit side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use CPF or SRS funds to invest through uSMART?

I could not confirm this either way. uSMART's own marketing materials do not list CPF Ordinary Account or SRS funding as supported, and the independent guides that track which Singapore brokers offer CPF or SRS investing, such as Endowus and the Phillip SMART Portfolio, do not include uSMART. Check directly with uSMART or your CPF/SRS approved investment list before assuming either way.

Does uSMART charge a minimum deposit to open an account?

No, the account itself has no minimum funding requirement. Some welcome promotions ask for a deposit in the S$1,000 to S$2,000 range, but that is tied to the promo, not account opening.

Is my money safe with uSMART in Singapore?

uSMART Securities (Singapore) Pte Ltd holds a Capital Markets Services Licence (CMS101161) from MAS and Exempt Financial Adviser status. Licensed firms in Singapore are required to hold client money and securities separately from their own, though uSMART is a newer entrant than moomoo or Tiger Brokers, so its local track record is shorter.

Are my SGX shares held in my own CDP account with uSMART?

No. uSMART holds SGX shares in a custodian account it manages on your behalf, not a CDP account registered directly in your name. This is a real trade-off against brokers offering direct CDP linkage.

How long does it take to open a uSMART account?

Typically 1 to 3 business days after you submit your KYC details, per uSMART's own help centre.

Does uSMART pay dividends directly to my bank account?

Dividends on shares held in uSMART's custodian structure are credited to your uSMART account rather than paid directly to your bank the way a CDP-linked holding works. Check uSMART's help centre for the exact crediting timeline for each market.

Is uSMART cheaper than moomoo for a small, infrequent trade?

On the Trader tier, uSMART's 0.02% SG stock commission with a S$1 minimum is cheaper than moomoo's standard 0.10% commission plus 0.12% platform fee. For US stocks both are commission-free, and uSMART's US$0.88 platform fee is marginally cheaper than moomoo's US$0.99.

What happens to uSMART's welcome rewards if I withdraw funds early?

Deposit-linked promotions, including the current Maybank Money Market Fund interest boost, are tied to holding a minimum deposit for a set period. Withdrawing early can forfeit the reward, so check the specific promotion's terms before you plan around it.

Can I trade US options or CFDs on uSMART?

Yes. uSMART supports US options from roughly US$0.50 per contract and CFDs across equities, forex and precious metals, though both carry higher risk and are not something a beginner should start with.

Does uSMART pay interest on cash I have not invested yet?

Yes, and it is one of the more competitive published rates among Singapore brokers for uncommitted cash. Check the live rate in the app, since it moves with market conditions.

The Bottom Line

What uSMART genuinely gives a Singapore investor is one of the lowest published fee cards in the market, especially if you trade US stocks often, plus a genuinely useful interest rate on cash sitting idle in the account. That is real value, not just a sign-up gimmick.

The open question is whether uSMART adds direct CDP linking the way moomoo did this year, and whether the fee card still looks as good once you move past the Trader tier to Standard or Intel. I would treat the lowest published numbers as the best case, not the guaranteed one.

If you mostly trade US stocks and are comparing purely on fees, uSMART is worth a serious look. If SGX exposure through your own CDP account, or CPF and SRS money, is the main goal, the custodian structure and missing CPF/SRS support are real enough to weigh against the fee savings.
